BROODMARES

CAPTIVE PRO

Captive Pro is the dam of our filly C'est Chic. She was purchased for the sole purpose of breeding a Kentucky Derby winner. Captive Pro's pedigree traces back to the great breeding operation of Tartan Farms Corporation, who also bred and managed 1991 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled. Her third dam, Princess Ribot, produced Cascapedia, the 1977 Champion Handicap mare. Her sixth dam, Betty Derr, has indirectly produced a plethora of Kentucky Derby winners. Betty Derr was inbred to the classic blood of St. Simon, and was a full sister to 1929 Kentucky Derby winner Clyde Van Dusen. In 1937, Betty Derr was bred by Louis B. Mayer to 1937 US Triple Crown winner War Admiral (Man O' War) and produced daughters Iron Maiden and Iron Reward, whom, in turn, produced 1955 Kentucky Derby winner Swaps (Iron Reward) and 1957 Kentucky Derby winner Iron Liege (Iron Maiden). Also, Captive Pro’s damsire, Great Above, is the sire of Holy Bull, whose son Giacomo won the 2005 Kentucky Derby.

Captive Pro is inbred through five generations to Intentionally (4Dx5d) and Rough & Tumble (5dx5D). She is also inbred to War Relic (Man O’ War), who appears sex-balanced in the fifth and sixth generations of Captive Pro’s pedigree (5S x 5s x 6D) through his son Intent and his daughter Iltis. She also has one line-breeding to Triple Crown winners War Admiral (Man O’ War) and Citation (Bull Lea) within six generations.

In 2007, Captive Pro was bred to Go For Gin, the 1994 Kentucky Derby winner. In May of 2008, she produced C'est Chic. Due to lack of capital, Des Amis had to sell Captive Pro in November of 2008, as soon as C'est Chic was weaned.

BACK STAGE HARLOT

Back Stage Harlot is the dam of our filly Sophie Belle.  Her pedigree is a mixture of European turf breeding and American dirt breeding. She has a superb, stamina-based pedigree and her foals will likely do well racing on turf in the UK and in the US.Her damsire is Stage Door Johnny, who won the 1968 Belmont Stakes, and she has a same-sex, cross-duplicate inbreeding to Princequillo - through his sons Round Table and Prince John. She also has a sex-balanced, cross-duplicate inbreeding (5 bloodlines) to 1943 Triple Crown winner Count Fleet in the fifth, sixth, and seventh generations of her pedigree. She descends from a female family that has won graded-stakes and has produced graded-stakes winners, and her pedigree traces tail-female to Toque, a daughter of European classic winner Pardal, who is a son of La Troienne’s 3/4 sister Adargatis.

Jackoranda is the dam of our colt
El Zaino.  Her pedigree is well-suited for US dirt racing. Her strong female family traces tail-female to La Troienne, the best broodmare in U.S. thoroughbred history (It is the same female family as the one in the pedigree of 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones). She is also inbred to the great racemare and broodmare Almahmoud, through her two best daughters, Natalma and Cosmah. (Normally, Almahmoud in-breds are usually in-bred to Northern Dancer through Natalma, but not Cosmah, who is linebred to Almahmoud through Halo).
